As the fall weather creeps upon us, so does a seemingly endless amount of new movies. One movie coming out on October 19 relates to the problems we are having in society right now. The movie is based off a book called The Hate U Give written by Angie Thomas. Freshman Ali Bajaj says, “The book was really great and I am super excited to see the movie.”
The movie is not even out yet and has a 95 out of 100 on rotten tomatoes and is being reviewed by Variety reporter and movie critic, Jessica Kiang, as “a brilliantly modulated balancing act between dark and light, anger and optimism, white privilege mined for pointed laughs and black fury portrayed as galvanizing force for change.”
It is about a girl named Starr who lives in a part of town bursting with culture. However, it is also known for gangs, drugs, and many bad encounters. After Starr’s innocent black friend is shot by the cops, she is forced to make a choice.
Will she stand up to the officer and the court and fight for her friends and herself or will she go along with the crowd at her high income private school? Watch The Hate U Give when it hits theatres on October 19. Click here for the trailer.
