At the start of the 2018-2017 season, head coach Emily Dacus, her team captains Keeley Matula and Brenna Walsh, and the team start off their lengthy season on the right foot. At the 2017 UCA camp, the varsity team placed first for dance, second for their Stunt Sequence, and third overall, winning the traditional Banana Award.
Their competition season begins at the start of November. Until then, the cheer team is spending their time learning, practicing, and perfecting their routines. While preparing for their busy season, the varsity cheer team practices after school throughout the week, and every Wednesday on late starts. Captain and senior Keeley Matula loves her team and being apart of a squad that supports and represents Regis Jesuit.
“Being captain of such an amazing group of girls has been such a great experience,” Keeley says. “And is one of the things I will miss most about Regis next year.”
For the homecoming performance, the cheer team works with the school’s varsity poms team to create a production number, to show to the student body at half time during the football game.
