The Console Wars

Which console is the best? Xbox, PS4, PC, Wii U?

In terms of price the Wii U is the lowest at $300, with the PS4 at $400, the Xbox One at $400-$500 (with kinect) and the PC ranging from $500-$2000, averaging at $700-$1200.

In terms of convenience, the Xbox is easy, according to freshman Hannah Basham. While the PS4 is close behind according to freshman Steven Hristopolous.

In the aspect of power the PC is in the lead, with the PS4 close behind followed by the Xbox One and the Wii U. All are capable with optimization to achieve impressive graphics, but the hardware makes it easier.

As far as exclusives go the Xbox One and PS4 are close in quality, except for PC, which has better strategy and Grand Strategy games. The Wii U’s exclusive are also considered high quality, such as Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros.

All consoles have a “new” controller or VR such as the Oculus for the PC, Wii remote for the Wii, Kinect and PS Move for the Xbox One and PS4. But are they gimmicks? Senior Ben Burlage says “I thinks it’s a gimmick, I don’t think people want that for games, most people just like the keyboard and the mouse for the controller, and that’s what they’ll go back to.” While other disagree, like freshman Steven Hristopolous who says: “Oculus will benefit next gen gaming, virtual reality gaming is what’s next, it makes so that you feel as if you are actually in the game.”

PC does have to advantage of most games being at 60fps instead of the 30-60fps many console games have. PC could even go up to 4K definition, unlike the 720p to 1080p of the consoles. PCs are also capable of playing much older games or emulating old consoles, like the GameCube.

All consoles are plagued by early release or feeling unpolished themselves or their games whether as freshman Anthony Janoso said “The Wii U failed because of lack of innovation” or when it comes to games freshman Hannah Basham, a avid gamer and Skyrim lover, “I think games should be released when they are at their maximum potential and awesomeness.”

In our opinion the PC wins this generations console war, because of its larger backwards compatibility, more frequent sales, more power, easier to mod, and better graphics. If you are looking for an easy plug and play console though the choice is wether you like the PS4, Xbox One, or Wii Us exclusives.
