May 4, 2016

Lou Kellogg stadium is home to many athletics here at Regis Jesuit, many great athletes have graced its turf but only a few return to coach and to teach. Mr. Fenoglio and Mr. Ptolemy are part of this group.

Mr. Fenoglio graduated in 2007 and returned to teach science and to coach the sport he started as a sophomore at Regis Jesuit, rugby. In his words, “It was a no-brainer(to return to Regis Jesuit)”.

The Regis Jesuit Rugby team was state runner-up last year and one of the top teams in the nation. We asked their Coach, Fenoglio, how teaching helps coaching and vise versa. He said, “I think the work ethic you get from being an athlete transitions into the classroom”.

This expectation for a good work ethic is found both on the rugby field and in the science classroom. For a man who expects the best from his students and his players, he is truly passionate in his teaching and coaching.

Mr. Ptolemy played soccer as well as golf at his time at Regis Jesuit and he graduated in 2007. When he returned he began teaching Theology and coaching soccer and girls golf. He said that, “Regis is a great place to be a student and a teacher.”

With his sights set high for both soccer and the upcoming golf seasons, we asked him what he hopes to accomplish as both a teacher and a coach. He said,”In the end my passion is in forming good men for others”

He shows this passion in forming young men and women in both his teaching and in his coaching. As assistant chair of freshmen retreat, he starts the forming of Regis men with their first taste of a retreat, as a soccer coach he gives incoming freshmen a start of comradely on the field. Overall his passion for mentoring is shown in both the classroom and on the field.

Mr. Fenolgio and Mr. Ptolemy both illustrate how teaching and coaching are intertwined and how teaching isn’t finished in the classroom and how coaching isn’t completely accomplished on the field.
