Colorado 2016 Dick Rush Invitational
Regis Jesuit Swim and Dive Team Competed in the Annual 2016 Dick Rush Invitational
Imagine this image in your mind. A building, filled with hundreds of students yelling and cheering, not to mention the hundreds of parents increasing the volume in size and sound.
The 2016 Colorado Dick Rush Invitational occurred on Saturday, March 19th. Regis Jesuit’s swim and dive team competed against the top 4A and 5A high schools in the state.
Before they competed, swimmers and divers had to wake up, get ready, and drive to Regis Jesuit before 5:30 a.m. The bus ride to the swim meet, which was held at Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center, was filled with silence and sleep. After arriving at the pool, swimmers and divers warmed up, then competed from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. As if the three and a half hour prelim session was not enough, swimmers who qualified had to swim their events twice.
The final session started early the same afternoon and ended at around 6:30 p.m. The session was filled with loud cheering and the anxiety of hearing the final score. Regis Jesuit brought home first place in the 200 Medley and 200 free relay events, as well as other individual events.
“The energy was great. It was great to watch of the swimming competition that Colorado has to offer,” was said by Christopher Long, a member of Regis Jesuit swim team that watched the swim meet. Chris also said that the swim meet was filled with excitement and he cannot wait for next year.
The result of the swim meet was great. Regis Jesuit placed second, in front of Cherry Creek High school but behind Fossil Ridge High School. As the swim team is looking forward, there goal remains the same, and that is to win the state championship. Swimmers and divers are doing everything that they can to bring home the state banner.
