After a rough start to the “Great 8” CHSAA 5A Girls Basketball Playoff game, the Raiders had to climb their way out of a 7 point deficit at the end of the first quarter.
The momentum changed when Regis Jesuit freshman Grace Weigand had a 3 point play with 3:00 minutes left in the third quarter to put the Raiders up 35-28. After that, the game was no longer up for grabs and Regis Jesuit had finally shut down Horizon High School.
With the help of freshman Avery Vansickle who led the team with 12 points, she made a drastic impact on the game. The Raiders also went onto a 16-2 run in the third quarter led by sophomore Jada Moore who scored all seven of her points in the third quarter.
Regis Jesuit had a solid defense led by Francesca Belibi’s three blocks. The Raider defense allowed only 17 points in the second half. After a game like this the Regis Jesuit basketball team will be prepared for their next playoff game. The Raiders will play the winner of Lakewood and Ralston Valley in next Thursday’s semifinal game at 7:00 or 8:30.
