Last Sunday, May 13th, the University of Denver Men’s Lacrosse team upset 7th seed Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Playoff Bracket with a score of 9-7. This was a big deal and the news is buzzing all around Colorado. The team in the regular season had a record of 12-3 so it was surprising that the team is unranked in the tournament. This year, DU is attempting to return to the winner’s circle for the first time since 2015 where they were the first college to win the Division 1 Men’s championship west of the Mississippi River.
The news and excitement about the team’s win is also being talked about around Regis Jesuit. Freshman Lacrosse player Brady Manzanares thinks, “DU is representing Colorado in a sport that is mostly played in the northeast.” Graham Foltz ’20 along with many others, “Is excited to watch them in the next round.” Stats along with other pieces of information about the team can be seen here. The players this year on Denver’s team are not only hopeful to win the championship for themselves but they are true PIONEERS of lacrosse in the west.
