Regis Jesuit Boys Basketball team gets off to a hot start with a big win against rivals, Mullen High School. On December 2nd the team played against the Mullen Mustangs and finished the game, winning 88-75. This was the 17th consecutive win for Regis Jesuit over longtime rivals, Mullen. Sophomore and leading scorer of the team, Eric Fiedler, shared, “Getting that win gave us a lot of momentum going into our trip to Arizona.” The following weekend the team competed in a tournament in Arizona, where they went 2-1 overall which improved their season record to 5-1.
As winter break is approaching the team is working harder than ever for league play which begins after Christmas. Junior Lucas Dickinson shared, “that was a good win to get the momentum on our side going into the start of league play after break.” This year the team has high hopes for the season which include getting back to the Coliseum and hopefully bringing Coach Shaw his 4th State Championship. When asked about having similar to success to last year, where the team made a big run in the playoffs losing in the Final Four to Fossil Ridge, Fiedler shared, “Just staying focused. We have the talent to be a state championship team, we just have to focus on small things to get to where we need to be.” Dickinson also shared a similar response with, “We just have to work hard and focus every day in practice to get better at the little things. We have the talent to do it, we just need to lock in mentally and focus to get back where we were last year and maybe even win it this year.” Having this goal and drive within the locker room will hopefully inspire the team to get back to the Coliseum this year, but this time win it all.
