On Friday, May 3rd the Regis Sophomore baseball team faced Legend. The players possessed a slight amount of concern due to the team’s positive reputation, but they maintained feelings of composure and confidence because of their excellent performance earlier in the season.
Regis came out swinging with great hits in the first inning at home, leading 9-4 going into the second because of some good hits by freshman Jackson Roper, to bring runs home. Through the rest of the game until the 5th, everything was balanced. The lead was cut down to 2 runs as Legend hit a RBI chance as they brought two runners home.
Once the 8th inning hit, Regis Jesuit pulled all of their starting fielders and put in substitutions leading to Regis Jesuit losing their lead in the 9th, having 8 errors that lead into runs. This ended up being the end of the game as Regis was in too much of a hole to dig out of, ending up to a loss 13-18 to Legend.
This team has a mix of players from different grade levels and from different cultures, but the team chemistry is as strong as any other team.
“They operate as a unit, there is no division between class levels.” Head coach Cameron Sepede said when asked about the team’s unison on the field.
Freshman Brady Wright spoke about the brotherhood on the team saying “… I think we have better brotherhood between other teams.”
This tough loss against Legend did not affect the family bond that this Raider team has, but it did show multiple other things.
This loss showed how connected this team really is, as in the face of defeat Regis stayed together and connected. No one blamed another teammate or threw shade at each other, as the Raiders walked back to their dugout.
