On May 1st, the Regis Jesuit varsity girls lacrosse team played against Cherry Creek and won 11-9. Rayn Parker, the sophomore goalie, achieved the milestone of one-hundred saves. This game was a huge victory for the lacrosse team because it meant that they went on to the next round. In Lou Kellogg stadium, the girls bonded as a team and won another game.
Rayn Parker admits that she had some hardships and setbacks growing up playing lacrosse, but she persevered. She started with a club team and fell in love with it at an early age. Parker admits that before the game against Valor last year during the semi-finals that she was “terrified” but also recognizes that “it was the best experience” of her life.
“I think this was a great season.” She also acknowledges that they “had some struggles in the beginning, but we seriously pulled through and had a very good and very productive very positive season” Parker said.
Parker does have some superstitions, she uses strawberry banana body armor, she blasts her favorite song, and wears ankle socks. She claims that she would not be able to play the same without it.
Her favorite role models are the seniors on the team, especially Phoebe Rogala who taught her how to be a leader and a good teammate. Additionally, Mia Calamari has also impacted her career as a goalie who taught her how to be a good defender. The team has many traditions such as listening to Cotton Eyed Joe which helps them not only bond as a team but get them pumped up for the game.
“The friendships, the sisterhood” She says that “They are my best friends.” “We’re all very close and it’s my favorite part about this team” Rayn explains.
