On April 30th, the Regis Girls Varsity Soccer team lost 0-2 to the state number one and nationally ranked 15th Mountain Vista at Lou Kellogg Stadium. While this was a hard loss, the girls showed great resilience and effort throughout the game. While 0-2 was not the result that they wanted, it was a decent showing against a top team in the state. The two goals scored by Mountain Vista happened in the second half, right after one another. Regis played good defense and kept the game close and competitive.
Regis also had three freshman playing, Kennedy Ranson, Marine Kellogg, and Izzy Meyer, all of whom got some time on the field. The keeper, Jane Rumpf, and the captain Adeleine Wallick, both had great games, and heavily contributed to the closeness of the game. The team struggled with possession, defending Mountain Vista for most of the game. Regis had a couple shots on goal, forcing saves made by the Mountain Vista goalkeeper. Jane Rumpf made many saves in the first and second half, playing a great game.
Freshman Mairen Kellogg summed up their loss with “I think we played really good, they just pressed us really hard, so I don’t think we were read, and we couldn’t really do much against them.” This is a good summary of the game, as the team had a tough time building any sort of attack or forward momentum. Freshman Izzy Meyer also added “We lost 2-0, which is really unfortunate, they were both really goals that we could have prevented. I think we did really well overall and I’m excited for next season.”
The girls have since had their last game against Douglas County, finishing their season with a 5-1 win. The season for the girls’ team is now over, and they are in the offseason preparing for next season.
