Seniors Caleb Aex, Braeden Focht and Gabe Shekleton reflect on a chaotic track season
filled with sickness and injuries. The seniors especially reflect on the loss of their leader
Braeden Focht to mono for the season. “It was unfortunate we lost Braeden to sickness”
says Caleb Aex ’25. Braeden was not the only one to go down either. Notable veteran
presences and young starts, Joey Beatty, Jack Ianuci and Tom olds battle sickness
throughout the season as well.
Even with all the chaos the team looked on the bright side.
Caleb Aex ’25 says it was a nice opportunity to step up and it gave some freshman chances
to step up too” They also agree that it was great to see the future of the program in action.
The team is losing huge components of the varsity program. The team is losing five seniors,
four of which were on varsity. Include in the those five is key locker room presences in Joey
Beatty, Braeden Focht and Caleb Aex. How this will affect the team, we don’t know, but are
excited to see. One thing is for sure tho the seniors are devastated that they have to leave.
Senior Joey Beatty says he “can’t believe his time his up.” He and the other senior say that
they will miss running with the boys everyday. Joey Beatty ’25 says he is going to “miss the
long run conversations the most”.
The underclass man too are extremely sad about the end
of the journey for the class of 2025. Many of them looked up too the seniors as role models,
best friends, and older brothers. Braeden Focht ’25 and Caleb Aex ’25 are off to Gonzaga.
Patrick Green ’25 is headed to Creighton. Gabe Shekleton ‘25 is going to St. Louis. Lastly
Joey Beatty ’25 is moving on to Utah. With that we are excited to see how the team does
next year and we wish the seniors a safe journey to there next chapters in life.
