The Regis Jesuit Varsity Rugby team’s 2025 playoff run was a testament to their resilience, skill, and growth. Entering the Rugby Colorado State Playoffs with high hopes, the Raiders faced a tough semifinal matchup against Valor Christian, one of the state’s most dominant teams. Despite a strong defensive start, Regis struggled offensively and ultimately lost 24-0. The setback was disappointing, but it only fueled the team’s determination to finish strong.
Junior Jack Dore reflected on the experience, saying, “We were definitely nervous going into the game after the hard loss to East.” But the Raiders quickly put the defeat behind them and regrouped for the third-place game against Monarch High School. The team bounced back in spectacular fashion, dominating the Coyotes with a 66-21 victory. Carter Moody ’25 was a standout, scoring four tries and leading the charge. From the opening whistle, Regis controlled the tempo, executing crisp passes and aggressive offensive drives. Andrew Beatty ’25 emphasized the team’s mindset, urging them to “keep your foot on the gas and go 100%.”
Throughout the season, the Raiders displayed teamwork, discipline, and a commitment to improvement, culminating in their third-place finish. The playoff run not only showcased their character but also marked a significant milestone for many seniors, who walked off the field proud of their contributions to the program.
Finishing third in the state was a remarkable achievement and a solid foundation for future teams. With younger players gaining valuable playoff experience and the team culture continuing to grow, the future looks bright for Regis Jesuit Rugby. Their playoff journey was a story of grit, growth, and pride, demonstrating that success isn’t just about the results, but the process along the way.
