Many people don’t understand everything that goes into a full Track and Field Team. We got to ask 5 different athletes from the team about their event to learn more about what a full Track and Field team consists of. There is Pole Vault, Jumps, Throws, Sprints, and Distance. All of these have equal contributions to the full team even though some events are much more popular than others.
We got to ask the 5 athletes what it takes to be successful in their event. Abby Frei ‘25 a pole vaulter told us “Just a lot of repetition, doing it over and over again.” Brady Gerken ‘25 a jumper said “Hard Work and Dedication.” is the most important thing for being successful in jumping. David Ejuwa ‘27 who is a thrower emphasized “Good form and discipline” when he told us what he thought it took to be a successful thrower. Zander Sayatovic ‘25 a sprinter also told us the importance of Hard Work and Dedication to be a great sprinter. Cooper McCloskey ’27 told us the most important but difficult thing to being a good runner is consistency.
With so many different perspectives and ways to get better there is so many different pieces that contribute to a full track and field team. At Continental League Championships the track and field team had many athletes competing in different events to try and represent Regis Jesuit the best they could. The track team also had multiple athletes compete at State championships. They were also from multiple event teams on the whole track and field team. Track and Field is not just about the sprinters like they advertise at the Olympics. It is about the whole entire team Pole Vault, Jumps, Throws, Sprints, and Distance these are the 5 events that make a whole track and field team.
