On Friday, May 9, the Regis Jesuit High School junior varsity baseball team faced Rock Canyon in their final game of the season. The stands were packed with fans and families from both schools, all eager to see how the Raiders would close out the year.
Excitement filled the air as people reflected on how far the team had come since the start of the season. The game began slowly for Regis, falling behind 2–0 by the fourth inning. However, strong pitching from Ezra Christ and a highlight reel diving catch by Cade Fillman helped the Raiders stay in the game.
By the fifth inning, Regis had tied the game 2–2, showing grit and determination. Despite their efforts, Rock Canyon managed to slide ahead in the final inning, ultimately winning 4–2.
After the game, sophomore Cade Fillman shared his thoughts on the game and the season overall. “Our team played pretty good,” he said. “I like to talk a lot of crap, and that didn’t help me today.” Despite the tough loss, Cade is still optimistic about the future. “It turned out pretty good. Obviously it could have been better and it didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but it’ll be good next year.”
The game may not have ended in a win for Regis, but the team’s development and fight throughout the season were clear. With underclassmen like Fillman and Christ stepping up in key moments, the Raiders have a strong foundation to build on for next year.
As the season comes to a close, fans are already looking ahead, hoping that next year’s squad will go even further and finish stronger.
