Laces are tied, sticks are grabbed, under the lights the RJ girls lacrosse team gets ready for another fight. There’s high anticipation over the team’s last few games in the season, with an outstanding record of 14-4. We talked to members of the team to find out where their success comes from. With the team being made up of all classes, sisterhood and teamwork is an important part of playing their best.
While looking back at their season, junior goalie, Rayn Parker talks about how “winning is always great, but it’s no fun if you’re not playing with people that you love.” During their game against Colorado Academy, the girls were able to secure a win in the 5A State Quarterfinals and head into the Semifinals round. Taking the field against ThunderRidge on May 13, the team suffered a tough 15-14 loss, ending their season and run for the State tile. They ended up finishing the season in second place in the Continental League. Despite their disappointing loss, the Junior Captain Lainey Phillips said that her favorite part of being on the team is that “we love each other both on and off the field, and that is something that makes their season “truly special”.
Throughout the season, the team has displayed determination, strong discipline, and immense commitment finishing 4th in the state of Colorado. Their efforts to run for the state title showcased not only their perseverance but also the strong team culture that continues to grow in the off season. Although it is the end of the season, it is not the end of the long lasting sisterhood of the RJ Girls Lacrosse team. The RJ community is excited to see how this team will grow in the next few years, and wish the seniors the best of luck in the next chapter of their life.
