Regis Jesuit Lacrosse team has had many key contributors help them through the 2025 season. One would think that many of the role players would be juniors and seniors, but some of the main contributors are Freshman and sophomores.
Although many are new to high school lacrosse, they did not have trouble settling in and making names for themselves. On both sides of the field, freshman and sophomores are showing juniors and seniors that age does not matter. On varsity, there are a total of 8 freshman and 11 sophomores.
Sophomore Marco Walsweer starts on varsity and does not have trouble scoring and showing his dominance on the field. He describes how the relationships he has made with the older players has helped him grow throughout the season. When we interviewed Marco about what it is like being on the team, he says, “It’s a new experience … and I just like being around and having older role models on the team.”
Alex Brown ’28 also added that “It can be difficult at times, but it is mainly fun.”
William Cornell ’28 is another young player on the team with similar experience. He has made a big impact on Regis lacrosse, being the team’s overall leader for points this season. Although he has out scored many of the older kids on the team, he still says he looks up too many of the older players. William Cornell described how he looked up to Willy Willson, saying “He’s a good all-around player, and he’s a good role model.” Many other young players, such as will Vanderbosch ’28 and Alex Brown ’28 have had the same experience of having older role models on the team.
When on the field these underclass men are destroying the competition, and on the side lines they are cheering on the team and making them thrive. Overall, these freshman and sophomores have already made a big impact on Regis lacrosse and have a bright future ahead of them.
