Friday April 25th the Regis Jesuit boy’s lacrosse team took on Castle View. Regis was 9-5 and Castle View was 5-5-1, Castle View was expected to lose, and Regis made that happen. It was cold and wet with mist coming in throughout the game, causing slippery conditions for players.
With extraordinary performances from players like #2 Austin Ryan allowed Regis to win by double digits. He had 2 goals at a one-hundredth shot percentage, and it takes a lot of work outside practice to achieve that.
Austin explains, “Solo players aren’t going to get better in practice; that’s where the team improves, so you have to work outside practice and do as much as you can.”
However, a team doesn’t only win on offense, we also interviewed senior #22 Tyler Davis, who starts on defense. United, the defense only allowed 2 goals from the Castle View offense. Tyler was the backbone of that game, locking down opponents, and that takes a lot of preparation.
“It just takes a lot of communication on and off the field,” said senior Tyler Davis.
Tyler also discusses strategies for developing a good defense throughout the game: “What we are going to run, who are we guarding, what hands are they, and who are we sliding to,” he says.
Finally, Austin Ryan shares his thoughts about the games ahead, including #1 ranked Cherry Creek High School, stating, “They try to make the game as chaotic as possible and cause you to make simple mistakes, so I think we just need to settle down and be calm”.
The team went on to win the game 12-2, and they continue to be one of the best teams in the state of Colorado. They show resilience and hard work on and off the field.
We wish them a great rest of the season!
