We’ve made it. One month, 30 eliminated teams, and 62 matches later we have reached the Fifa Club World Cup Final. A thrilling match between European champions and arguably best club in the world Paris Saint-Germain and the team that has slain three Brazilian giants on there way to the final, Chelsea FC. We’ll walk through detailed breakdowns of both sides, their runs in this new tournament , and of course how they match up against each other for this afternoon’s clash.
Starting off with English giants Chelesea, we see a club with their mentality of spending their way to the top. Over the past three seasons Chelsea have spent approximately 1.6 billion dollars on transfers in their hopes to bring home silverware back to Stamford Bridge. It has been four years since their UEFA Champions League victory, defeating Manchester City 1-0. Since that win they have spent, spent, and spent some more while failing to bring home real success only winning three trophies two of which they qualified for from that Champions league win, the FIFA Club World Cup 2022, and the UEFA super cup 2022. This year however they were able to win the smallest European trophy, the UEFA Europa Conference League, which for a club like Chelsea that has such high stature and such a large wallet is not a feat of any kind. They have cycled through managers, expensive flops of players such as João Felix and Kepa Arazibalaga, and many disappointing league finishes. Manger Enzo Maresca looks to hoist a major trophy for the first time with Chelsea utilizing Cole Palmer, João Pedro, and Pedro Neto up front.
Throughout this competition Chelsea have been gifted with the much easier side of the bracket leading them to p[lay teams like Palmeiras and Benfica. They have not had many challenges as they marched their way to this Club World Cup final. They have consistently been grabbing two or more goals in each match barring one this tournament. It’ll be fun to see what they can do coming up against PSG this afternoon.
Paris Saint-Germain enter into this match with a large quality advantage. Throughout the Club World Cup they have scored sixteen times and only conceding once. They have the strong frontline of Kvaratskhelia, Dembélé and Doué. PSG are 180 minutes away from completing an unprecedented sextuple. PSG have not only offensively dominated, but until the semi final against Real Madrid they have not had their main man Ousmane Dembélé, but now that he has returned, they have an incredible attack that has produced goals all season long and will continue to do so.
The only real struggle PSG could face tomorrow is the suspension of Willian Pacho and Théo Hernandez who both play in a fullback position. Lucas Beraldo filled in that position wonderfully against Real Madrid. PSG came to the final by facing Atletico de Madrid, Bayern München, and Real Madrid. They put up clean sheets against all three as well.
Between PSG and Chelsea, PSG are by far the superior club, with a superior squad, and superior tactics. PSG are wonderful at creating their chances and getting assists to drop at the foot of an awaiting goalscorer. Chelsea finish off crazy shots and creating goals out of nothing. PSG are masters at passing, completing more than 640 passes per game while Chelsea are completing nearly 100 fewer passes completed per game. The most important players to watch are Vitinha for PSG and Pedro Neto for Chelsea. How will the tactics pan out? Tune in at 3pm eastern on DAZN.
