Flamenco entrances audiences
In room 127 on Tuesday, March tenth there was a demonstration of Flamenco as part of the annual Diversity Day Conference. This art form originated in Spain where it is still popular today. In Flamenco there is cante (the singing), toque (the guitar), and jaleo (Dancing). The dancing involves the dancer stomping there feet and dancing to the rhythm of the song. The female musicians wore traditional brightly colored dresses that where perfect for dancing.
As the musicians played, they would clap and snap to get the audience engaged in the performance. As the music got to key parts of the song the audience would shout out an “oley!” Between the songs, the leader of the group, Mahia Mann would tell the audience about some of Flamencos culture and history. It even has a large presents in Denver (click here for more).
“Flamenco is a type of music that that is different from rock, and pop because every musician pays attention to echoer and the songs form is not the same every time,” Mann said.
