Aaron Chen ’20 Varsity Swimmer
To some the pool is just another place to hangout with friends or maybe have a BBQ. However to freshman Aaron Chen the pool is a place of work, a place to get better and compete. Every morning Aaron has swim practice and then again after school, more practice. All this work is so he can compete at the varsity level for a highly competitive swim team. Aaron being one of the few freshman on varsity has surely made his mark and proved that he belongs there with his impressive times. Aaron has always been around the pool and enjoyed swimming.
“When I was six I was just swimming for fun and not a sport, but the more I got into it my dad convinced me to start swimming competitively”
Aaron states. And ever since then Aaron has been improving and dominating the pool. This season Aaron has had some major accomplishments in the pool against swimmers with more experience then him. According to Aaron one of the best moments of this season was at a coaches meet where he had a swim off against s kid at creek and ended up winning by a few milliseconds. One of the major differences between high school swimming and his club team is the support.
“The high school team is a lot more supportive and helpful and helps improve more then my club team.”
However there can always be improvement for next year, and Aaron being a sophomore will be expected improve his times and to be a leader on the team. These improvements just like any other sport, come from practice. Even though practice is so early and then again after a tiring fay at school the swimmers are expected to give there best effort, but sometimes that doesn’t happen.
“One thing I definitely can work on is trying harder in practice, because something’s I slack off if i’m tired or sore.”
Aaron has and will continue to blow peoples minds for the next 3 years at Regis Jesuit and hopefully bring another state win to the school. But for now he is working hard in practice so that he can help his team in meets.
