How the pandemic is affecting Centennial and what they are planning on doing in the wake of the virus.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many small businesses around the world had to close because of the lack of revenue and these restrictions placed on them. Unfortunately, Centennial was not immune to this. These business make up 47% of the revenue, causing cuts to be made to other areas which aren’t as urgent, such as sidewalks and parks.

Furthermore, the pandemic has caused panic and distrust among the citizens of Centennial. One these couldn’t find her results of the COVID-19 test online.

“I kept going to the portal,” she said, “I checked the results there. I didn’t see anything.”

After the initial hit of the virus. The city had to create changes in budget.

“The City has reduced operating costs where possible, reviewed all 2020 projects. City staff has provided recommendations to City Council to defer projects including some roadway and sidewalk projects and capital improvements to Centennial Center Park.” The city said.

With this change to the budget, they believe that any other form layoffs will not be needed

“City staff members were still assessing budget shortfalls,” the city spokesman said. “…but as of April 27, Centennial had not made any furloughs or layoffs.”

But now the county is starting to close up again after reporting a rise of 72% in positive COVID cases. But the county isn’t worried about this.

“But there’s still time for businesses and residents to reverse the trend” and “All county residents and visitors should recommit to wearing masks or face coverings, staying at least 6 feet from others, and washing hands often, the news release said.”
