For the first time in Cincinnati Reds  history a Reds pitcher has won the National League CY award, withTrevor Bauer beating a handful of strong candidates like Yu Darvish and Jacob Degrom.

This is Bauer’s first Cy Young award since he joined the league back in 2012, and he’s glad to bring it to Ohio

“With all the amazing talent and great teams in Reds history, to not have a Cy Young winner in the past, it’s high time that changed,” Bauer said. “I’m just very proud to bring that to the people of Cincinnati, who have supported the Reds for so long.”

Bauer is thankful and proud that he could bring back this prestigious award back to the people of Cincinnati who have never received a Cy Young award. Bauer’s dominate season put him up as a finalist for the Cy young award but it has been his goal since becoming drafted.

“The Cy Young was always front of mind, to be honest,” Bauer said. “A lot of people won’t talk about it like that, but I view it as, really, the highest award a pitcher can win. Just being recognized as the best at something is extremely intriguing to me, because it’s a symbol of all the hard work, all the time in the gym doing repetitive tasks, all the bad years I’ve had that have tested me mentally and just a testament to my work ethic and the people that have stuck with me throughout the whole process.”

Bauer has always been a dominant pitcher. This dream was the result of a decade of work. Bauer has always wanted to leave an impact on the future generations of baseball.

“It’s something I’ve chased, I guess, for nine years now,” Bauer said. “All the offseason workouts, all the time I’m studying, learning, researching, all the bad years I’ve had, the bad pitches I’ve made, to find a way to overcome all of that and actually accomplish something that I’ve wanted for that long, it’s pretty special.”

Bauer’s remarkable season shows that hard work pays off and that his hard work led him to one of the most prestigious award in baseball. Bauer said.“It’s one of those things in baseball. It’s like when the Cubs go 108 years without a winning a championship. You’re like, wow, that organization’s been around forever and how’s that even possible?” Bauer said.
