The new guidelines on ski resorts opening up in Colorado make it so that you have to wear masks unless you are eating.  Since ski season is so popular, the Colorado government and ski resorts had to start thinking about restrictions and requirements early on.

All ski resorts must “require mask-wearing in accordance with the ski area’s plan, encouraging mask-wearing in all indoor and outdoor public spaces, recognizing exceptions for safety, dining, and while individuals are actively engaged in skiing, riding, or other distanced outdoor activities,” Colorado government officials of the health and safety department say.

Ski resorts have also been struggling with the idea of how to let people ride on ski lifts together safely.  Keystone is limiting the number of riders.

“Capacity of lifts and gondolas will be reduced to allow for physical distancing. Guests will only be allowed on lifts with travelers in their party,” Keystone decided.

Another big issue that ski resorts have to think about is when and where customers are going to be required to wear face masks.  But for some ski resorts, these regulations have already been decided and are already in place.

“As we have all summer, we will be requiring guests to wear face coverings in every part of our operations, which includes loading and riding in chairlifts and gondolas; when inside all buildings; and during all ski and snowboard lessons,” Vail has decided.

Nobody likes wearing masks or having to social distance.  However wearing masks and still being able to ski this season, and get outdoors in the cold, is going to be really nice.
