COVID cases are rising dramatically in Colorado, especially in nursing home facilities and elderly people as they face more threats due to weaker immune systems. On November 28, at 1 pm, Colorado changed its precautions in nursing homes to better protect the elderly and the staff.

COVID cases in nursing homes have brought attention that there are more problems than meets the eye.

“That ‘silent enemy’ has killed at least 824 residents and staff members at Colorado nursing homes” Randy Kuykendall, director of health facilities and emergency medical services for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment(CDPHE) told 9 News, “That’s at least 43% of all deaths among COVID-19 cases in the state as of Aug. 26.”

With rising COVID-19 cases being reported, there is a higher chance for the disease to seep into nursing homes and affect more elderly.

“43 facilities of each type reported outbreaks” The Denver Post said. “Ten of the current outbreaks in nursing homes and assisted living homes involve 50 or more residents and seven have recorded 10 or more deaths.”

Colorado governor Polis raised Colorado to level RED and with that, increased public health orders and demands.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said,” Given their congregate nature and resident population served, nursing home populations are at high risk of being affected by respiratory pathogens like COVID-19 and other pathogens, including multi drug-resistant organisms.”

The time of Covid-19 has been long and painful, with many loses.“America was not built on fear” President Truman once said.” America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.”
