Regis Jesuit High School Theater will be performing a spring musical, despite Covid-19 struggles.

This pandemic has thrown RJ, like other schools, into quite a jam, but the theater department has found a solution to their problems with the musical Bright Star Concert Version.

“I am feeling really excited about Bright Star Concert Version,” Mr. Pantoja, theater director, said. “The challenge of performing a musical outside is very exciting and new. We really started by asking the question, ‘What can we do outside that we would never be able to do in The Z Theater?’ All those ideas came together and our cast, crew, and pit band all stepped up to make these ideas work.”

The show is very Covid safe, with many precautions put into place.

“Masks are required, and we only sing outside,” senior Sav Orris, theater officer and sound manager, tells us. “We are actually doing the concert version which was originally performed on the streets of New York, so the show is written to be done outside and socially distanced.”

Of course, a production like this doesn’t come without its battles.

“There are a lot of challenges being outside,” Orris points out. “Weather being the biggest. As the sound manager, the biggest issue I have is the wind. It causes the microphones to sound like someone is crinkling paper and you can’t hear what is being said.”

With all their hard work put in, RJ theater hopes that folks will come to the performance and show support. As Mr. Pantoja said, “Due to Covid, we are limited to having a small audience for every show. So if you want to check out the performance, reserve your seat ASAP!”

(Pay attention to the announcements and the posters around school for more details on how to get a seat.)
