There are 37,100 High Schools in America,
647 High Schools in Colorado,
18 Christian High Schools in Colorado,
8 Catholic High Schools in Colorado,
and 1 Regis Jesuit.
Here’s a snapshot of Regis during the wintertime.
SAUNTERING THROUGH THE SNOW- After completing her duties as a musician Sophomore Emma Monark walks across the Girls Division Quad. “Snow is cold!” says Emma Monark. Emma plays the piano in Regis Jesuit’s Pit Band — which performed the music for SIster Act, and was selected to play in the BellCo Theatre for ThesCon. She is excited to see where her musical talents will take her, but she hopes it will be somewhere warmer. DECK THE HALLS- Seniors Matt Gauss and Trenton Meier hang up Christmas lights in Junior Hall. Although most students packed up and went home as soon as school ended for Thanksgiving Break, members of National Honors Society decorate the hallways to show their holiday cheer. “We had some input on how to make the school more festive,” says Matt Gauss “We did it at a perfect time because when we came back [from Thanksgiving break] it was Christmas time and it was pretty fun.” From the lights above the lockers to the Santa hats on the statues, RJ students know how to show some holiday spirit. GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN- Photo by Mrs. Charisse Broderick King. RJ Students lit candles commemorating the El Salvadoran Martyrs and others who gave their lives for their faith on the November First Martyrs Prayer Service. Mr. Leeuw, a first year teacher at Regis, seeing the Prayer Service for the first time said, “That was beautiful I thought [the students holding the candles] was a lovely representation of the memorial, giving a visual reminder of those people.” Regis Jesuit celebrates those who have given their lives for their faith during this prayer service every November First. HOT COCOA AND ITALIAN VAMPIRE GANGSTERS- One of Senior Jackson Dean’s favorite parts about wintertime is hanging out in the snow with friends and wearing big fuzzy coats. “I love putting on coats and I think I look really good in them. And people don’t get mad at you when you wear a coat two days in a row.” Outside of jackets and the snow, Jackson also enjoys drinking hot chocolate with Regis’ Creative Writing club where he can relax with his friends and talk about his ideas for stories, songs, poems, or even TV shows about Italian vampire gangsters. ACE UP HIS SLEEVE- Senior Trenton Meier gets a lucky hand while playing poker at Regis’s Card Playing Club. “The colder weather causes us to be inside more,” says Meier. Whenever he can’t be outside during the winter he enjoys playing poker in the warm science rooms of the BD. Card Playing Club meets Fridays at lunch in room 170.
