RJ Special Olympics Basketball vs Grandview 2022

Special Olympics has a strong sense of community within Regis Jesuit. “It’s a community-driven club. It means a lot to us to have the same people come out,” senior partner Duncan McDonald said. The athletes enjoy a variety of sports including football, basketball, and soccer. Special Olympics promotes a relationship between athletes and partners alike and gives the athletes a sense of community while they play.

COVID-19 has been a challenging time for Special Olympics. Many of the athletes are at high risk for COVID, “It’s definitely been challenging”, McDonald said. For a while, the Athletes were even unsure if they were going to be able to play basketball. Being one of the largest clubs at Regis it is challenging to accommodate everyone. “Unfortunately, the last couple years have been hard to get time together” said club moderator Mrs. Buehler. Luckily, they were able to play basketball this year. On February 9th, the Raiders faced off with the Grandview Wolves to finish off a great season. After a close game, the Raiders fell 78-80 in a controversial final minute. Way to play Raiders!
