Coming off of last year’s state championship title, your boys rugby team came out this year had a successful season, but fell short of the title this year. After realizing that their run to state this year wouldn’t be as strong, the boys rugby team took this year into an even more important lesson, learning to bond and just have fun with their brothers. Senior team captain Durrell Barber ’24 says. “The season has been a little bit shaky, but this year, I think we just became closer as brothers especially as seniors. Being able to struggle together especially through this season, we have had a lot up ups but we also had a lot of downs, and just being able to struggle with my brothers and not only have high moments”. A lot unlike last year’s “highs” for your boys rugby, Durrell Barber discusses the importance of having “lows” together as well, because it bonds the rugby team and connects their brotherhood. The rest of the senior captains also discuss how they had a great time over their 4 years, and had a fun time being able to watch their brothers besides them grow into who they are.
With a special tribute to assistant coach, Riglie Reeves, who has been apart of the boys rugby team since 2018, continues to talk about why more boys should join the rugby team. “Rugby is one of those sports that, it doesn’t matter what sport you have ever played, you can pick it up pretty quickly. It’s one of those sports that you can continue to play as an adult, it’s just such a fun game”. Coach Riglie hopes to see some more boys on the field next year and encourages that it will be fun, and easy to pick up.
