On Wednesday, May 2, the students at Regis Jesuit High School performed their annual Spring Choral Concert. After months of hard work and preparation, the Choral students and their director Mr. Bernie Sauer ‘97 produced an extraordinary showcase of performances.
“We tend to go a little more Pop, Broadway, Rock,” says Mr. Sauer about the Spring Concert, “it’s also a really fun time to celebrate our seniors.”
The concert included the GD Chorus, Regis Jesuit Chorale, Vox Lucis, and the Canta Belles. Each group shows off three to four of their favorite songs.
With the year coming to an end, Regis Jesuit Choral students paid homage to the graduating class of 2024 with many annual traditions.
Chorale students honored two seniors with solos. Joanie Livadariu ‘24, and Emilia Hunter ‘24, performed alongside their fellow Chorale members to “Thank you for the Music” by ABBA.
Along with a few soloists, Vox Lucis also had a senior ceremony where the younger class wrote heartfelt messages and presented them to the crowd and to each other.
The Canta Belles performed many extraordinary songs, highlighting seniors Charlotte Tolva ‘24, and Caroline Spaulding ‘24.
Similarly to the Vox Lucis, Cantabelle juniors dedicated speeches to each of the senior graduates. In the following performance, all the seniors came together and sang a beautiful compilation of their favorite songs over all four years of high school, called the Senior Medley.
“I remember last year when the seniors did their senior medley and it’s like oh my gosh it’s my turn, it’s just unreal,” Nicolette Shifrin ‘24 said.
Before the show, performers were asked what they do to prepare for the stage.
Jason Lee ‘24 says, “I make sure to keep my voice in good condition by drinking lots of water and trying not to yell.”
The choir students have a traditional preparation routine before they step on stage. Starting with a pep talk from their director Mr. Sauer and ending with an all-student prayer.
During the prayer everybody gets a turn to share their dedications, and prayer intentions.
It was an extraordinary concert, reminiscing on a fantastic year at Regis Jesuit Choral.
