The sounds of violin strings, piano playing, and guitar strums took over RJ’s annual instrumental concert which took place on April 29, 2025. Held in the Z Theater, this concert showcased students who took part in the orchestra, ensembles, solo performances. This beautiful event gave student musicians the chance to share what they’ve been working on throughout the semester. All types of people from the RJ community came to show support for this excellent group of performers.

Beautiful selections were played throughout the night, including “The Waltz”, played by the Brass Quartet, “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” by the Guitar Ensemble, and “Fantasia on an Original Theme” done by the String Orchestra. Though these group additions were truly beautiful to hear, they weren’t the only ones that stole the show.
Solo performers also made their talents shine, blowing the audience away. Jenna Kim ’25 performed a beautiful piano piece, “Allegro Molto Moderato”, that brought the audience together in awe. Will Pooler ’25 played “The Stable Song” on his guitar, stumming a tune that made the crowd fall in love. Lastly, Jasmine Munn ’25 gave us an amazing solo performance with her violin “Adagio Molto Impressivo”, bringing the group together.
Seniors were given the stage, and teachers and underclassmen paid their respects, as they completed their final performance of the year. “I loved seeing our kids do well, excel, perform, and bring their talents to the stage.” says Ms. Bruchs, Orchestra Director. “Especially all our seniors.” At the end of the performances, there was a strong finale, which brought the concert to a close. “Across the Universe” was played by the Combined Ensembles with powerful voices and impacting guitar playing. It was truly worthwhile to see this professional event end with a unified setting that left the audience in admiration. As the concert came to an end, members of the instrumental group surprised Mr. Aliga, an important leader of their team, with a large farewell card, due to this being his last year at RJ. The card was full of normal sized cards, which led to laughter and a feeling of connection with the performers and the crowd. “The best part is working with the students towards a common goal with their creativity and their artistry.” Mr. Aliga explains. “It’s a bittersweet feeling, you know…everything fades, and you move on to the next thing.” The night ended a success, bringing music into the ears of all those present.
