After a heartbreaking loss in the State Championship on March 10th 2018, Regis Jesuit has been looking forward to their highly anticipated finals rematch with the Grandview Wolves.
Tonight was the night for the Raiders to get their revenge. After going up 18-13 in the first quarter, the Raiders did not take the foot off the gas pedal. The momentum stayed with Regis Jesuit when Francesca Belibi threw down a dunk in the second quarter. This was her first dunk of the season and the student sections for both teams were in shock. The entire building was buzzing with amazement at what they had just witnessed in a high school basketball game. They outscored Grandview 23-6 in the second quarter and continued to fight throughout the whole game. The Raiders went on to beat Grandview 79-55. These two teams are very intense and it is likely they will see each other in the playoffs. Do not be surprised if this is the state championship match up once again.
Throughout the game there were many personal fouls and there were two technical fouls on Grandview. The first was in the second quarter with 6:37 left when Sophomore Avery Vansickle was pushed by Tomia Johnson after the play was dead. In the fourth quarter with 2:58 to go, Alisha Davis was ejected from the game for pushing Sophomore Grace Weigand with force to the floor. Talk about a remake of the “Malice at the Palace” at Regis Jesuit.
The arena was packed to the rafters, and every seat was filled for what was looked to be one of the best high school matchups in the state this year. Let’s just say it surpassed all expectations. Intense. Riveting. Elite. Competitive. Highlight-reel worthy. Come playoff time, this will be the match up that no one will forget.
