Ignatius Movie Premier – Colby Jaramillo ’20

St Ignatius is a huge part of Regis Jesuit and the founding of the Jesuits. It was a very great day for Jesuits around the world when they found out there was a new movie coming out on the life of Inigo. It was a Spanish film and wasn’t highly watched here in the United States.

Mr. Jim Broderick decided he needed to show it here at Regis. He worked very hard to get rights to air it here at Regis Jesuit. It was a big deal for him to show our community a movie on the amazing man.

The St Ignatius movie was based on Inigo de Loyola and his early life before the founding of the Jesuits. Ignatius was a womanizer and an all around rude fellow. He was a war hero who dedicated his life to women and war. St Ignatius was struck by a cannon ball in the leg and was severely injured. It was a miracle he was able to live. His leg was very severely shattered and they said he could never walk again. Ignatius had a very huge ego and it hurt him inside knowing he couldn’t be the hero he wished he was. He decided to have them saw it back into place and hopefully save the leg. They were able to do so but he spent months upon months recovering. Ignatius was given two books to pass time during the recovery.

The two books he read were Life of Christ and Life of Saints. St Ignatius then began to become spiritually attached to God and re shape his life. He changed everything his life was. Before reading these books Inigo was insanely depressed and didn’t know how he would live on. Inigo decided to reshape his life and become the holy man we know now.

St Ignatius went on to spend a lot of time in prayer and developed the spiritual exercises. These exercises saved lives and changed Inigo for the better. The movie was a near perfect representation of the pain he suffered and what he did to change people’s lives. It was a truly amazing story and it was a very important thing to show here at Regis. I believe more students should have attended and hopefully we can make it a tradition to show this movie to classes in the future. Mr. Broderick nailed it and huge credit to him for making this all happen.
