Porsche’s New ‘efuels’ Should Become Our Main Priority Moving Forward

Compromise is society’s biggest asset. Porsche and Siemens Energy have been producing hydrogen-based synthetic fuel for a couple of years now. The main idea is to have clean reusable fuel to use for cars instead of petroleum without having to alter the engine. Therefore, we can keep our old, paid off, and classic cars without the excessive pollution in practice now. Porsche is aiming to have the new fuel completely up and running by 2026 with 550 million liters produced. Synthetic, Hydrogen based fuel should be our main priority, not electric vehicles.

According to Porsche’s spokesman Peter Grave, the fuels would cut Co2 emissions by more than 85 percent while electric vehicles reduce only about 75 percent. The development of lithium batteries for electric vehicles still emits a lot of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, therefore reduces less than synthetic fuels.

For now and for a short time in the future, these synthetic fuels will be focused on actual Porsche’s and will not be released completely to the public, but by 2022 Porsche plans to produce over 130,000 liters of fuel. One liter of fuel is equivalent to one gallon of petroleum. As time goes on and as more companies start to produce more and more fuel will be released to the public for us to use.

Some say that these fuels will be too expensive, and well, they are right…kind of. As more companies continue to adapt to these new standards more fuel will become abundant throughout the world, therefore, becoming less expensive. It’s simple supply and demand, right now there is close to no usable supply but demand is high so it will be expensive but as more is being manufactured the less expensive it will become in time.

Because of the constantly changing regulations with automobiles and carbon emissions, a new synthetic fuel has been developing that will help with the race for clean energy. Price should not be the main concern for a long time and these fuels will be cleaner than an electric vehicle. After around 100 years of internal combustion engines, we have finally found a clean alternative to gas and electricity. This alternative is a true compromise for people looking to make the earth greener and car enthusiasts. These fuels should become our main focus alongside electric vehicles so we can keep our paid-off cars and keep the earth green.

We should strive to have elements of the past but a focus on the future.
