On Saturday, May 4th, the Regis Jesuit girls varsity lacrosse team faced the Valor Christian Eagles in a highly anticipated game at Valor Christian High School. After defeating rival Valor in the semi-final round of playoffs last year, the Raiders have been practicing with focus and intensity to prepare for another matchup. They brought this focus and intensity on the field, ready to give it their all. After a hard fight, the Raiders fell to the Eagles 8-12.
In a pre-game interview, senior captain Phoebe Rogala reflects on how she and the team are feeling, “I’m nervous but I’m excited. You know they want revenge after we beat them in semis, so I think it’s going to be a great game,” Rogala said.
When asked about how the team successfully works together, Rogala responded that it was all about teamwork. “We’ve been doing a lot of team bonding and everything that we can to just make the chemistry the best it can be,” Rogala said.
Both the Raider’s determination to have a great game and their ability to effectively work together drove them to bring their best to this matchup. As the game began, it became clear that both teams came out strong and ready to fight. Each possession felt as if it carried the weight of the rivalry. As the final whistle blew, the Raiders fell short against the Eagles. However, this rivalry game brought out a fantastic performance for the girls, which is something to be proud of.
This battle of a game fueled the Raiders to enter the playoffs with even more grit than before. They defeated the Chatfield Chargers in the first round, and fell to the Fairview Knights in the second round. We are so proud of this strong team on their incredible season and look forward to amazing seasons to come.
