Having clubs to promote brotherhood has become an important part of high school careers. Here at Regis Jesuit, this is especially important. Now we have an addition to the amazing list of clubs that we have; Aviation Club. Aviation club focuses on flying RC vehicles, and in particular, they fly RC planes of a smaller size indoors.

“Small and lightweight planes are generally better inside, as they can easily be tossed around in the wind,” Junior Ryan Riebe says.

Although the club only uses small planes right now, there are many other choices for them ranging from fast speeds to 1/4 scales to the real thing. The club is also planning on flying quadcopters or drones for a bit of variety and doing some simulator flying soon. RC flying typically includes the pilot, who operates the plane via a radio transmitter. The hobby itself has been growing larger as people have developed cheaper and better quality vehicles.

“Remote controlled planes can be difficult to fly, but there are many beginner planes to learn with,” Ryan notes.

This club currently takes place in 179, Mr. McPhee’s room, every other Wednesday during lunch and is moderated by Mr. McPhee. The meetings are very interesting and even had Mr. McPhee’s son come in one day to talk about his job flying F-16s. There will be many more opportunities for some awesome fun in the semester, so be sure to get involved!

“We are planning to have quite a few meetings outside of school where we will be doing various things outside of class, such as visiting Wings Over the Rockies, going to an airline’s training center with simulators, and the local RC flying field,” Ryan explains.

If anyone is interested in joining this club, contact Ryan at RiebeRy@student.regisjesuit.com and he will add you to the mailing list.
