How to Play and Watch Rugby

Rugby is a complicated sport with many different unique qualities, but can be understood easily if explained properly. to simplify I will only explain the important plays that are often misunderstood.

Scrum – method of restarting play in rugby that involves players packing closely together with their heads down and attempting to gain possession of the ball.

Lineouts – A line-out is formed by players from each team lining up inside the touchline, and a player from the side that did not put the ball into touch then throws the ball back into play.

Kick-offs – Both halves of the match are started with a kick off from the centre-point of the halfway line and the field. The kick must cross the opposition’s 10-metre line, unless received by the receiving team. The opposition are not allowed to go beyond the 10-metre line until the ball is kicked.
