Why do patterned pants look unpresentable on girls, but untucked shirts without belts on boys are allowed? From 2019 to 2020, Regis Jesuit has made adjustments to their dress code. They have loosened the boys, but enforced more rules on the girls side.

This issue relates to me because my brother and sister both graduated from Regis when I was beginning freshman year. Therefore, I was receiving lots of hand me down clothes from my sister and my brother’s girl friends. Realizing that the dress code was not the same as last year, a lot of pants I had gotten, did not fit the new dress code. I was forced to go out and by more clothes that my mom was not expecting the need to do. There was no need for the dress code change from last year to this year.

My first piece of evidence for this topic is the fact that girls this year are no longer allowed to wear patterned, jogger, or flowy pants. In 2019, girls had a variety of pant styles to pick from. They were allowed to wear any bottoms with patterns on it or flowy all the way through, or just at the bottom. After this rule was enforced, the only type of pants most girls wear is khakis. Even though these are beyond uncomfortable, their is no better alternative. This goes against liberty because the board of Regis used their authority to focus on one of the least important problems, implementing more rules on the girls division dress code.

Second, boys are no longer required to wear belts. Last year, every boy was expected to wear a belt at all times but transitioning to this year, it is no longer enforced. This makes the boys look messy and untidy.

Lastly, boys are no longer obligated to tuck in their shirts. Once again, Regis loosens the dress code for the boys. Why do patterned pants look unpresentable, but keeping boys shirts untucked is acceptable?

Adjusting from 2019 to 2020, Regis Jesuit should not have changed their dress code. Both divisions need to keep somewhat of the same rules enforced for dress code. This is the only way to keep it fair.
