How risky is opening ski resorts?

Is one of Colorado’s main attractions safe anymore?  Covid-19 has been the main topic of 2020 and has altered almost every aspect of the year.  Skiing has now been altered too.  Colorado is best known for their ski resorts and has now been challenged with whether ski resorts can maintain the safety of their employees and guests due to covid-19.  Many restrictions and new guidelines have been placed to keep the ski resorts open and to help maintain safety.  As a skier, I want the ski resorts to stay open for the winter of 2020-2021 but the issue still lingers whether it is safe to keep the resorts open or not.  I think the ski resorts can stay open because guidelines have been put in place to maintain the safety of the guests and employees.

Many new restrictions and guidelines have been placed on ski resorts by the Colorado Department of Health. One of the new restrictions put on resorts is the reservation system which is a way of controlling the amount of people on the mountain so people can maintain 6 ft or more of distance. Another guideline is that only members of the same group or family can be on the same ski lift together so people can maintain a safe distance.  These guidelines will help prevent the spread of covid-19.  Skiing is an outdoor sport and it has been proven by scientists that being outside rather than inside is a lot safer for covid-19. Measures such as not being able to eat in restaurants or not being able to dine indoors on the mountain makes it harder to spread covid-19 since it all takes place outside now.  Luckily, skiing is a non-contact and spread out sport making it easy to navigate against covid-19.  When skiing you have to keep our distance from others so you do not crash into them on the mountain. The distance will ultimately be what helps prevent teh spread of covid-19.  Many argue that ski resorts shouldn’t stay open because the restrictions can only do so much.  Ultimately skiing is a lot safer than most sports because it is non-contact and it takes place outside and sports like football which is a contact sport were still played.  Some also may argue that because covid-19 can spread through the air that just because the sport is outside it is still dangerous.  Since new rules have been made to distance people it is harder for people to get covid-19 from each other.

Skiing is a huge part fo many peoples lives and because restrictions have been made, it is safe for ski resorts to stay open.  Ski resorts can stay open and maintain the safety of their guests and employees because they have taken measures like new guidelines.  Why shouldn’t ski resorts stay open if they can maintain the safety of their guests? Even the Colorado Health Department approved of the ski resorts staying open.
