Faith in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club is at an all time high. What started out as a way for a friend group to get together to talk about their faith and sports has expanded into a school-wide club that meets every Monday, with consistent, diverse attendance and a plethora of guest speakers. FCA founder and leader Caroline Spaulding ’24 said, “When I started FCA, I envisioned it going almost exactly how it is going now. If anything, it has EXCEEDED my expectations.” And that it has. Caroline and the leadership team around her have created a very organized, and efficient club. They offer extensive small group discussions, monthly youth groups and a growing community in faith.
Caroline’s sermon last week touched upon ideas one can find in the teachings of St. Ignatius of Loyola’s First Principle and Foundation: Finding God in all things, and how that can be applied during advent. She made sure to explain how we must give ourselves up to God, and accept that he is in control of our lives, and how that is a good thing. She ended with saying that “seeing the little things as blessings is a great way to start.”
However, with most of the leadership team graduating after this year, Caroline and senior leader Addie Darr are thinking ahead, and how the club should grow. Addie believes that the best way to do that is through more community service opportunities, as that is where we act as disciples of God, and give others the grace he has given us. “We’ve been so focused with getting the club up and running that we haven’t had time to get there yet. But now that we have a foundation, that means that we can start to expand on what FCA really is.” Caroline is “hopeful that this amazing club will continue even after I graduate.” After all, it’s ADVENTageous to go to FCA.
