Greyson Glasheen and Hunter Truitt were interviewing the captains and varsity swimmers of the Regis Girls Swim and Dive team. Through the cheering, diving, and swimming at the end of the day, it is a very loving and caring swim team with hard-working girls. Overall, the girl’s swim and dive team is coming in strong with an undefeated season. The four girls we interviewed were Frances Sullivan, Ashley Bricca, Emma O’Dwyer, and record-breaking diver Sarah Mann. Sarah’s dive record is quite remarkable, she will be on the leaderboard next to Olympic champion Missy Franklin who also swam for Regis.
The Regis Bubble is where all the home Swim and Dive meets are held, and it is such a loud and lively atmosphere. All you hear in the bubble during a meet is the cheesy swim cheers, lots of screaming from the coaches, and the water splashing. In the interview with Sarah Mann, she talks about how surreal it is to have made the first team last year and be on the leaderboard right under Missy Franklin’s name. “It’s a reflection of how hard this team works and I feel so lucky to be apart of a team where my teammates are more excited about my accomplishments.” –Sarah Mann’24. While we were taking videos and pictures during practice, you could feel the vibrant energy and love the girl’s swim and dive team shared.
What I love about the Regis Jesuit girls’ swim and dive team is the fact that they always stick around for each other’s events and cheer each other on. The swimmers cheer on the divers and the divers cheer on the swimmers which I think shows how loving the Regis swimming community is. Swimming at Regis, especially Varsity level shows how dedicated these girls are to this sport they get disappointed if their time is off by 0.5. The reason they get disappointed is because that 0.5 could have been a game changer for their meet. Overall, I think swimming has taught these girls the importance of discipline, hard work, and dedication mainly because of the rigorous swim schedule and workouts these girls have to do.
