The senior girls took the win in the Grid Iron Powderpuff Championship, becoming back-to-back champions on Friday Night in Lou Kellogg Stadium. Led by senior coaches Peyton Lindell, Garrett Reece, Grayson McPhereson, Jojo Hernadez, Jace Filleman, and Justin Steinbeck, the team practiced hard to win 20-0 against the juniors.
During Wish Week, Servant Leadership planned an all-inclusive bracket-play tournament with Sophomores vs. Seniors on Tuesday and Freshman vs. Juniors on Thursday, all played on McNicholas Green. The games were a hit, attracting a large crowd, making it a lot more popular than last year’s game. Both upperclassmen teams took the win, but it was close during the Freshman/Junior game due to Jasmine Lugo ‘28, who scored all four touchdowns for their class.
After crushing the sophomores on Tuesday April 29th, the seniors were confident in their abilities to take the winner of the Freshman/Junior game. Wide Receiver Nora Sheirbon ‘25 caught 5 touchdown passes in the semi-finals and 2 touchdowns in the Championship. “Jane, an amazing QB” Nora states, giving credit to Jane Rumpf for her incredible arm. Running back MaKenna Shively ‘25 speaks confidently on their clean sweep. “It was an easy dub, honestly, I thought we were going to win” Kenna said.
The team is proud of their two-peat, the class of 2025 cannot be stopped. “We’re leaving behind a legacy that cannot be beat” Nora Sheirbon ‘25 states. As for the juniors, they can’t take part in the two-peat, but they still have a chance to win next year. “It sucks, but like I said, we will be back next year” Coach Jack Manthey ‘26 says. Planning on winning next year, the juniors have a lot to work on, including staffing changes and more practices. But we’ll see if the class of 2027 can fulfill the legacy the class of 2025 is leaving behind.
