On Tuesday May 6th, students went to receive their awards for art, writing, and photography skills in the GD Kessler Library for the Impressions Literary Arts event. At the beginning of the event students walked through the gallery and art display to vote on their favorite pieces. The students who received these awards have very high standards and academic levels of commitment. During this event the Impressions Literary Art magazine was released. The magazine highlighted students’ artwork, photography, and writing.
Jasmine Alias, one of the students who received the Honorable Mention award in the art category had some intriguing things to say about her award. She explains how she wants to take her art to the next level and, “advance more in competitions.” Jasmine shows her dedication to her artwork explaining how it took her, “four weeks to complete.”
Jasmine manages her time well, completing her immaculate artwork in only a month while excelling in her academics. Jasmine mentioned how she always puts her academics first, “I always do my schoolwork first, that way when I have extra time I can relax or practice my art.”
Another student who received an Honorable Mention award was Lizzy Evege. She is excelling in her academics, as well as her highly artistic talents for art. Her ability to convey her thoughts and emotions to the audience is displayed through her artwork. Other students, as well as Lizzy, must balance their time wisely. Lizzy explains, “school always must come first.”
When asked how long she has been doing art for, Lizzy said, “Basically since forever.” She explained that she is in love with, “drawing, that’s all I would ever do, was draw.” She estimates her art “cumulatively took forty hours.” This shows Lizzy’s dedication and detail to her artwork, and how she manages and prioritizes her schoolwork. Sophomore Olivia Higareda saw Lizzy’s art and was very impressed. “Her art is truly amazing,” Olivia said.
