It’s been a historic season for the Regis Jesuit field hockey team this year. They have never won in playoffs before, but just this past week they beat Kent Denver after a full game, 2 overtime periods, and a shootout. With the fast approaching semi-finals this Wednesday, October 28th at 7:15 at All-City Stadium, the Raiders, who are seeded second in the state, will face Cherry Creek High School for a chance to advance to the state finals game. The Raiders are expecting a large student section and for those of you in the stands, here are the top things to watch for in this historic game.

A close game

In their two meetings in the regular season, the Raiders beat the Cherry Creek Bruins once but lost once as well. Both teams have seven wins on the season and although these two teams are evenly matched, the Raiders are prepared to bring their A-game. Captain Lindsey Reich ’17 says, “Our team is focusing in practice on tactics that we will use to beat Creek.”

Great stops from goalie Claire Stemper ’16

As senior captain, Stemper is looking forward to the opportunity to play in a semifinal game for the first time in her Regis Jesuit career. Stemper has over 60 saves this season and has led her team to 10 shutouts. Hopefully fans will get to see some of the incredible saves that she is known for.

An energetic crowd

The students at Regis Jesuit are known for their large and enthusiastic crowds at football games and are ready to bring this crowd to support their field hockey team. Reich says, “I think that fans should look to come with energy because that energy and that support is what helped us beat Kent.”

Leadership from seniors on the field

Most of the seniors on the team have been playing together since that were freshmen. Since this game will be one of their last games playing together as a team, fans can expect the seniors to step up their play and leadership. Fans should be in the look out for Abby Wist, Mary Kate Elson, Mathison Davis, Lauryn Toole, Revann Sirokman, Kathleen Roe, Mia Geoly, Claire Stemper, and leading scorer Ally Moran as they leave their mark on RJ field hockey history.

Come support the field hockey team Wednesday October 28th, 2015 in their journey to the program’s first ever state title.
