The Power of Giving: Class Scholarship Fund
On Thursday, November 5th during academy period, the girls of the Regis Jesuit community gathered in the gym to learn about how their simple and daily actions of kindness towards others could be taken one step further by contributing to the Legacy scholarship fund.
Nearly one out of every four students at Regis Jesuit receives financial aid; many of the girls’ classmates and friends would not be able to continue their education at Regis without the support of the entire community.
In response to this, a perpetual, endowed scholarship has been established for each class and will be added to each year by the girls and their classmates throughout their lifetime.
“It’s all you: this is not your parents’ donation…its yours. You have to decide that you want to have a positive impact on someone else’s education. There is a lesson here: it is simply to have genuine compassion for others. Give apart of yourself and your fortune in order to help students experience the same thing that you are experiencing now as a part of the Regis Jesuit community. This is what it means to be women with and for others,” Ms. Prohira stated.
She mentioned that each student should start getting into the habit of collecting loose change and saving it in a “giving jar” that would be dedicated to the scholarship fund and ultimately the education of future students.
Mr. Rick Sullivan emphasized the idea that the girls at Regis Jesuit have an obligation to each other and to the girls that will enter the sisterhood in the future. All members of the Regis community need to give one hundred percent.
“Remember, the donation is your choice. You will be making a difference in someone’s life. It can even consist of the loose change that is everywhere. You’d be amazed how much money is lying around: in your drawers, in the bottom of your backpack, and on the street. It may seem insignificant at first, but believe me: the pennies, nickels, and dimes all add up. Fill up your jar by adding a little bit every day. Your giving spirit and loving personality will do wonders for those around you,” Ms. Prohira concluded.
It is important for each girl to understand that their gift to their Class Scholarship ensures a Regis Jesuit education is possible for the Raiders of tomorrow.
In the spirit of giving and the promotion of the scholarship fund, the Regis community is encouraging its students to participate in the senior-sponsored dress down day that is occurring on Friday, November 6th. The price is $2 and all proceeds will go to the Senior Class Scholarship that will give the gift of Jesuit education to many students.
