David Todd the drawing artist has a unique art style with the use of a camera, pencils, and paper to create fantastic drawings. Senior David Todd takes a couple minutes out of his busy day to discuss his art work and how art has affected him for the first “Artist of The Week” series.

RJ Media: When did you first realize that art was so important to you ?
David Todd: sophomore year I took Mr. Maes’s class, and it turned out I was pretty good at it, so from then on I kept on exploring art.

RJ Media: What are some of the challenges of being an artist in your field ?
David Todd: I think the hardest part is figuring out what you want to draw, so I would say finding where is start is the biggest challenge.

RJ Media:  Do you feel that art is more than just a panting or a song, or More than just the outcome of your work?
David Todd: yes I do, because art can symbolize things deeper than just the art itself, it’s more than just a painting or drawing. There is a deeper meaning behind everything.

RJ Media:  Do you believe that art can help make the world better? Or yourself better? Why? Or why not?
David Todd: Yes I do believe art can make the world a better place, take the I phone for example, it is art, the design of it, and how it gets changed over time, and has made many people’s lives much easier.

RJ Media :Take me through your process of starting a new piece of art or project. What is the most difficult part for you? Why?
David Todd: as soon as I find out what I am going to do, the first thing is to sketch it out in my sketchbook to get a feel for what I want to do, then figure out what materials I am going to use, find out all the criteria I need, and then you sketch it out and really just go for it. You take your time and you get it right, and if something messes up its art, so it can change into something beautiful.

RJ Media:  Has art helped you understand yourself better? If so, how?
David Todd: yes it has , art just gets me in the zone and it has helped me understand myself a little better and helps me figure out what I like and what I don’t like. It does help you find out things that you like.

RJ Media:  What is your main goal as an artist? Why?
David Todd: To bring out the best in myself and to challenge myself in what I can do and to learn new techniques and new things.

RJ Media:  Do you see yourself continuing your career as an artist? Why or why not ?
David Todd: Yes I do, I have been thinking about minoring in art at College. I want to go to Denver University and they have an art school and I would learn a bunch of different arts, ceramics, which I am taking currently , fine art, photography , all that good stuff.
