Novel November Part 1

November is novel writing month. Here are some tips and tools for novel writing.

Novel writing November is a time where many young authors either start writing a novel, finish writing a novel, or both. Both boys division and girls division librarians gave some tips and tools for writing a novel this month.

1) Read- how will you know what is a good writing style and how to make things flow? By reading of course!

2) Set aside time to write without distractions. A lot is going on in a high schoolers life. If you want to even finish the novel, you actually need to write. Every day you should set aside at least ten minutes to make some progress on your book.

3) Don’t edit to much, at least at first. You need to focus on the actual sorty at the beginning. You can always edit at the end of each chapter or, even better, the entire book.

4) Start with what you know. Unless you want a challenge, which writing a novel already is, write about something that interests you and you know a good amount about the topic. It will make the process a lot more fun and easier.

5) Talk to successful authors. They know the challenges and have their own tips for writing. They might be able to recommend people who would accept, mentor, and publish a high school author.

6) Look at the blogs of authors. It would be easier than trying to set up a meeting, phone call, or sending them mail constantly. They would post about the struggles and you can private message them.
