Stay calm. Slow down. Be loud.

The RJ speech and debate team has had a successful season so far this year. In their meet last Saturday at Mullen High School, the team was awarde a total of 14 awards.

“The kids did well in this meet,” says speech and debate coach Mr. Onstott. “But it was not unusual in the sense that they have done well in really all the meets.”

Congratulations to Anna Kozler ’16, Liam McCann’16, Reid Holben ’16, Hayden Smith ’16, Patrick Koeings ’19, Rachel Hubka ’19, and Stephanie Garcia-Pena ’18 for receiving superior awards in their events last Saturday. Erin Casey ’19, Hayden Smith, and Anna Kozler all were awarded finalist awards. Reid Holben, Duncan Whipple ’19, and Emma Braun ’16 were all in the top five in their event!

Speech and debate captain Emma Braun ’16 has been really impressed with the team so for this year. She says this year could be the beginning of another “golden year of speech and debate.”

“Our kids have been scoring really well,” Braun says. “I would say that especially our incoming freshmen have been really good about taking feedback from previous meets and applying it to their current meets.”

The hard work and long practices have paid off for the RJ speech and debate team so far this year, but they still have a long season ahead of them with their next meet Saturday December 5.
