Freshman Lauren Basilico

Lauren Basilico has a multi-faceted personality.

In the span of a couple minutes her demeanor will jump from poised and logical to smiley and goofy and then back to self-reflective and thoughtful. This St. Thomas More alum is quick on her feet, athletic, and overall a great addition to the Regis Jesuit community. But, as happy as our community is to welcome her, she is just as excited to open up to Regis Jesuit. Although she originally chose Regis because it was the “natural progression” from her middle school, since she has been here, she has fallen for the all-girls learning environment, the catholic teachings, and most of all, the athletics. Basilico participated in cross country this fall and she said that what separated RJ cross country from her middle school athletics was that “they focus on not just the actual sport, but becoming a team and having a community behind the actual athletics.” She also says she will be trying for swimming this year, even citing her dream super power as the ability to breath underwater, but she is still nervous about potentially being cut.

Her nerves don’t show though when she talks about her outgoing personality saying, “I tend to tell people a lot, there’s not much people don’t know about me.” And when she finally admits that one thing people may not know is that she was born without her left ACL she even says, “I always use that one when somebody asks what they don’t know about me so I guess now everybody probably knows it.”

Whether you see Basilico at speech and debate practice or trying out for either golf or tennis next spring, her happiness will shine through. She attributes this to her dog saying, “[dogs] make me feel happier, because I tend to be kind of a negative person so when I see my dog she just makes my face light up. All dogs just tend to make people happy in general, so they’re my spirit animal because they make me positive.” Watch out for this motivated girl in the next four years!
