The boxing is hardly a new sport to the human race, but will it last?

Boxing enjoyed its spotlight in the 20th century with many well-known boxers(Ali, Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr., Sugar Ray, George Foreman, and many others) but with many fights now being pay-per-view or with the new sensational UFC, MMA style of fighting, boxing lost a lot of viewers and lost the spot of fame.

Boxing was first seen in the Assyrian culture in 2000 b.c. They used leather gloves and rules were almost non existent. The gloves were made to be harder and eventually turned into more of a weapon that a use for protection. Rules for boxing officially put into place in 1743, by Jack Broughton. Partially evolved from Bare Knuckle boxing. On ESPN it is listed as one of the top ten hardest sports.

Trey Lantzy is a student who has participated in MMA and boxing over the years and is experienced in this field.

“Viewed as an aggressive sport, that keeps going, because you have to fight and win and earn it,” said Lantzy. “and you have to be fit to do it, and it’s one of the harder sports, but it is just seen as entertainment.”

UFC is a new sport taking much of the fans of boxing and is showed as more entertaining. This newer fighting company came by storm. The beginning of UFC was when many famous and great boxers retire, which is why many fans left boxing. Many fans also left because of the explosiveness of the newer sport, it has much more violence and at its origin, almost no fights ended with no broken bones or lost teeth.

“The competition isn’t the same as it once was, there is no dominant winner,” quote from retired Heavyweight Champion Hasim Rahman.
